Point your camera at the QR code or open the shared link, and the file streams straight from the other device's browser to yours over an encrypted peer-to-peer connection — nothing sits on a server in between.
There is nothing to install and no account to create. Open the link the sender gave you, scan their QR code with your camera, or type the short PIN shown on their screen. You will see the file name and size while the two devices connect, and the file starts arriving as soon as the link is open — no extra tap. If the two devices cannot reach each other directly, the transfer switches to an encrypted relay by itself so it still goes through.
The sender has to be on their page at the same time, because the file is coming from their device rather than from a server — there is no stored copy waiting for you. Once the transfer finishes, Android saves to the Downloads folder, desktop browsers save wherever they normally do, and iPhones show a Save button that opens the share sheet so you can choose Photos or Files. If a link has expired, ask the sender to start a new one; sessions are deliberately short-lived.
